Welcome

Welcome to my website and photo gallery. This site has been set up to show photographs I have taken of Liverpool and Merseyside over the last twenty five years, and to show how the city celebrated European Capital of Culture in 2008 and its subsequent regeneration. Of course Liverpool is famous for the Beatles and its football clubs, but there is much more to this vibrant city.

The city has undergone major regeneration over the past few years including the construction of a major new shopping centre in Liverpool One, as well as the brand new Echo Arena and Conference Centre at the King's dock. In 2007 Liverpool celebrated its 800th birthday.

As European Capital of Culture in 2008, the city celebrated with numerous exciting events including the return of Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr to their home town. June saw the appearance of over 100 baby lambananas which certainly added a splash of colour to the city.

The river Mersey saw the arrival of many liners at the new cruise liner terminal including the farewell visit of the QE2 and the Clipper 07-08 Round The World Clipper race ended here in July.

The Tall Ships returned to Liverpool in July, ending with an exciting parade of sail. August saw the colourful Brouhaha International Carnival and Street Festival plus there was Samba in and around Bold Street.

One of the highlights of the Capital of Culture came in September when La Machine's giant mechanical spider came to town to enthrall us all.

I have captured and documented many of these events and will be displaying some of them here.

Please check out the individual galleries.

In 2009 the Liverpool celebrated Year of the Environment as it tried to make the city a greener place to live in.

2010 is the Year of Health and Wellbeing as the city attempts to make us all get fitter and live a longer and healthier life. Liverpool will also be the UK's only representative at the World Expo in Shanghai which kicks off in May.

John Lennon would have been 70 in 2010 and his birthday was celebrated in Liverpool with the unveiling of a peace monument dedeicated to him - it is situated in Chevasse Park. Ringo Starr also celebrated hhis birthday in 2010 with friends and family in New York.

2011 is the centenary of the iconic Royal Liver Building.

The much anticipated opening of the Museum of Liverpool took place on 19 July,2011. The newly built museum is at Liverpool's Pier Head and was opened by a schoolboy who wrote in saying he was good at opening things. With so much of Liverpool's heritage, art, music and sporting memorabilia on display, the museum is well worth a visit.
